Thirteen (13) out of the remaining twenty two (22) challengers survived the cut on the recent Souqpinoy Slimdown Challenge Eviction Night which was live streamed via Facebook last March 15 at The Coach Academy’s Al Muneera Gym.
Earlier in the evening, the challengers went up to the weighing scale, duly supervised by the Medical City. They were later given kick boxing lessons by Coach Clyde of The Coach Academy while waiting for their scores to be tabulated. The weigh-in signaled the start of the night and completes the only missing piece to the challengers’ score sheets.
After their punching, kicking, jabbing, and blocking feat, the verdict for the night was announced. First on the list is Challenger Kerwin Panganoron who was granted immunity for topping the 20-minute-10-round of stairs challenge last Wednesday. The rest of the challengers who made the cut were Shane Ang, Ralph Aquino, Mia Arquiza, Christopher Asaro, Jonathan Balingit, Evangeline Brigaudit, Pauline Cortez, Roan Enriquez, Jo Ann Bawic, Aiza Roxas, Rachelle Santos, and Jane Umaña.
The names of challengers who will be evicted though dreaded was also much anticipated. Coach Sugar Altamia of TCA voice broke when the announcement for the eviction came. The group had to say goodbye to Jessie Lou Astillero, Diana Besana, Maria Cristina Dela Cruz, Bill Gunda, Katherine Tumanda, and Ruby Opolentisima. “This is not the end, this is just the beginning,” proclaimed by Ruby Opolentisima, one of the eliminated challengers who were interviewed. “We will continue reducing weight,” she added.
The judges and coaches, in turn, praised their unwavering determination and bid farewell to those who were eliminated. “We are your inspiration as what you’ve said guys but actually, you guys are our inspiration,” said Coach Sugar Altamia of TCA who was emotional at that night. “Naiiyak ako, but we are here to back you up,” she said further. “You are in competition with yourself; either you go back to your usual weight or take the right road and push through,” Judge Darbie Estrebilla encouraged the participants. He also added, “At the end of the day, you know how to do it because you’ve already started.” As for Coach Adam, “You are now miles and miles ahead of your former self, it is a shame if stop you right now. Yung katawan ninyo yun lang ang puhunan natin, para sa pamilya natin. Pag nawala yan wala na lahat.”
Hosts Anthony Sigua and Mariz Del Rio of JuanDubai called for one final group hug before finally letting go of the evicted ones. The eliminated challengers will not leave the show empty-handed as they were granted 1 month free training access inside the TCA, Al Muneera Gym. Souqpinoy together with its partners vowed to continue supporting the eliminated challengers by adding them to their own support group.
In addition to the evicted ones, challengers Kevin Bollozos, Kenneth Briones, and Leide Rosure informed the show that they will be withdrawing from the competition due to conflicts on their schedules. The team bid goodbye to them assuring them that they can always visit and continue their journey via The Coach Academy.
Raising health awareness by far has been successful, but the goal of the program does not stop in making our fellow Kabayans healthy, the true goal is to teach everyone on how to “keep and stay healthy”. The show is now on its fourth week, reaching the half-way mark of the six-week challenge. It has touched thousands of viewers even outside UAE.
