How to Overcome Homesickness Especially if You’re a New OFW

It takes a strong heart and a strong determination to earn your living far away from home and leave all the familiarity and warmth of your former life.

Here are some proven ways to help you with your first few months abroad:

  1. Magdasal
Say a solemn and sincere prayer and unburden yourself to Him. He is always listening.
  2. Magbasa ng inspirational books
Magandang pastime ang magbasa, lalo pa kung inspirational books ang babasahin mo tulad ng book ni Rick Warren “The Purpose Driven Life” or ang The Secret ni Rhonda Byrne. Somehow after reading, you will see examples of how people were able to overcome difficulties and emerged victorious.
  3. Communicate regularly with your family and loved ones
With the digital age, mas madali na ngayon to keep in touch with your family and friends. Just to make yourself feel like you’re near them even if you are miles away.
  4. Make new friends.
Mag member ka sa mga groups who share common interests like you. For example if you love singing, you can join the choir in St Mary’s. If you love basketball, sumali ka sa maraming Pinoy basketball tournaments sa Dubai. Kapag marami kang kaibigan mas madali kang makaka-adjust sa buhay sa UAE.
  5. Mag-relax din pag may time.
Kapag day-off mo, take time to see and explore the city.
  6. Be active and exercise
Nakaka-good mood ang physical exercise.
